Re: Warhammer Fantasy
Sweet thanks for the link. It is a good read. My general idea was
Lv4 Necromancer Lord
Lv2 Vampire Hero
Lv2 Vampire Hero
Of course this is before I get the book, and really understood the army.
Thinking it may change slightly, but that "use Necro with Lore of Death" really interests me. I never figured using the non vampire lores would be that beneficial as I did take a read through them. Definately will give both lores a try though.
Also, I hear using a bunker isn't nearly as effective as individual on a mount. But my army and style pretty much commands that I shove everything into one big block and Invoke spam the whole time. So many zombies and skeletons!
What are your thoughts?

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
I think that with your ability to "regrow" your army, horde tactics would really be effective. With some monsters/elites/beefy characters to take out the tougher things I think it would be good. I seem to rember that undead don't brake after failing a leadership test (I may be misrembering) so that is a major, major disadvantage of a horde army taken away. But you trade it for a character who, when he dies, practically takes the army with him. Mixed blessing for the better in my opinion.
In my non-vampire count playing mind I think that it would be best to have the hierophant (the person who is keeping the army together) be a vampire as they're considerably tougher. Give him that armour that gives you a 4+ ward save a mount and maybe some anti-miscast gear and I can see him surviving well into the last turns of the game.
I'm looking at a horde close combat type army for my Orcs and Goblins. I'm thinking Savage Orcs and Forest Goblins as a theme. For my Chaos Dwarfs I'm thinking a warmachine list. That way I could also run them as Dwarfs if it's so required.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
I was just looking at his website and he has a great guide for getting a cheap effective army. He's done Dark Elves, Warriors of Chaos, Deamons.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
The ability to "Regrow" my army is really just compensating for the amount of suck the zombies are. I mean, the skeletons are good for basic troops, but the zombies specifically are even only mediocre at what you assume they do. Bogging down blocks of troops.
Just ran a quick simulation. I think zombies are a little better than I think they are.
Remember the no retreat rule with mode immune to psychology types: if you lose the combat automatic wounds are inflicted equal to the number you lost by. aNd with no armour saves zombies will go down fast. Invocation will only be able to just replace some terrible losses. Luck is still required!
I'll prolly discuss more on this once I get the book. And run more simulations!

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
Im pretty sure the only thing zombies are good for are meat-shielding and miniatures for nurgle
Re: Warhammer Fantasy
So got the book. Its really really hard to fit all the stuff I want in to a 2,500 point list. I thought I was going core heavy, but everything is so darned cheap!
Also, my first fiddling with list building made me a list with no Vampires. I couldn't fit even one in! And the Necros I did put in had no real upgrades. I gave 2 Hero Necros Corpse Cart mounts so that I could free up space in the Special slots, but even then I could only get in Grave Guard so far, and I seriously need those Black Knights in there for mobility.
Golly, this game is too hard already!

Haha, don't worry it gets easier. It seems though that we've come to the end of the generic good advice I can through around. If you haven't all ready seen it Carpe Noctem seems to be the main VC forum.
2,500 pts you say?
