Re: Planned Apocalypse
I know you have, I already calculated team 1's. We're at 8,763 in case you missed that part. Still waiting for Team 2. Ian, Henry and Colten.

Re: Planned Apocalypse
Well, if you were paying any attention Reuben included your daemons into his points total. You just make an Apocalypse army out of whatever you have left.

Re: Planned Apocalypse
Would Daemons really work with Eldar and Marines against other Daemons? Just leave them out then. 325 points not being in the game isn't a big deal.

Re: Planned Apocalypse
Oh, the strategems. Um, yes. Sorry Robbie a couple posts back I misread what you said. Yes, Don't reveal them, but we need to know how much we get after we get team 2's total points. If there is a significant differance one team may get one or two more. But ya I suppose thet's unlikely. Just make sure everyone know what they're doing before they arrive at my place on the 19th. I just don't know how deployment works. We can get the rest done when everyone is there.
Hopefully we can finish the whole game.

Re: Planned Apocalypse
Team 1 8,763
Team 2* 6,716
*Ian is not included in these numbers yet. I'm assuming he has around 2,500.
Hopefully Ian is coming tomorrow. 1 O' clock guys. We will need to decide on a time when to stop and then finish the turn we are on. (You know the thing I mean)

Re: Planned Apocalypse
Okay so I was just thinking of a themed apocolypse, not too soon though, and I was just had an explination for an "over the top" type game. Trench warfare is a terrible type of warfare that is cause when both sides are forced into a defensible position. The only time a defensible position is best for both sides is when mobility is unavailable. The reason this type of warfare occured in WWI was that their mobile weapon technology hadn't caught up with their weapon technology, e.g. tanks. Mobility in the 41st millienium is plentiful. The reason a war would devolve into trench warfare would be that something had happend that disabled the vehicles. Which leads to my idea.
I think that the planet we would be fighting for/on would have severe electromagnetic storms that disable all vehicles and knocked out the neural systems of the larger creatures. So basicly all that was left was infantry and anything that was "man" portable. So the battle would occur when the electromagnetic storm had dissapated. I thought this could occur either on the first turn or on the second turn. The diffrence would be that if it had dissapated on the first turn then all the tanks/vehicles and people in side them started at the edge of that team's side. In the second turn scenario all vehicles and monsterous creatures would be kept in reserve, and start to show up on the second turn. I assume in this case the first turn would be the "over the top" moment.
So what do you guys think?

Re: Planned Apocalypse
Actually, I like the depth of it. At first it will be a large infantry battle. And then the big nasty things would arrive! So it would feel like it escalates rapidly without it starting out like that.
The only problem with this is that almost all units in Warhammer are ones that would prefer to just run at the enemy for any reason. SM have their armour and no need for cover for example. Eldar are fast and know nothing of "Holding the Line" because to them there is no "Line."
So what armies or units would make use of the trenches?

Re: Planned Apocalypse
My Tau, my warriors, your big shooty guys, Reuben's Havoks. Basicly anything that was a shooty unit and not a close combat unit. Or, come to think of if, any unit that has a bad save.
Edit: Also man portible artilery would probably still work. So imperial guard weapons teams, Eldar heavy weapons team, Big gunz, would proabably be set up in their own little defense things near the rear of the trench lines.

Re: Planned Apocalypse
Yes but you see all those units you mentioned are single units each from different Codexes, armies. Different races. The best game HAS to be themed properly. This wont work because we all have different armies. And also its not fun to have (for example) a company of IG and like a squad and a half of Tau Firewarriors. It just doesn't appeal.
My rebuttle is to your reply is really just a copy and paste of my original statement. (Except for your "Edit" statement.)
In order for it to work we need to have one gunline style army and maybe a small detatchment of Elite SM style allies as one side. So far the only true gunline army we have is IG. Sure, my Orks CAN operate as a gunline, but they would be a waste of points like that because most Orks HAVE to be in close combat to win.

Re: Planned Apocalypse
IG love gunlines and the imperium still use trench warfare all the time when an enemy connot be simply crushed so it allows them to bring there near inexhastible numbers to bear. just thought id tell robbie this so for any other ideas of a back storie that he can think of there doesent have to be some big storm or any thing.... just IG

Re: Planned Apocalypse
You don't have to go over the top if you don't want to, and keep in mind the "no mans land" isn't going to be completely empty. There'll be ruined buildings, rocks, and tons of craters. Also keep in mind that while trench warfare is an old type of warfare, this is still the 41st millenium. There's technology that can help you. Artillery can thin out the defending line (or the people running at you), I know Calvin has a big mek with a shield, I don't know other people's armies that well, but i'm sure they have some thing man portable I plan to put a character in a group of grotesques for him to use as meat shields; if he makes it to the line he'll drop a webway portal allowing incubi, wyches and wracks to spew out over the trenches. Also, this is an apocolypse game, their will be strategems to help you.
