Traveller: The Search For More Money (IC)

Again the object becomes larger and more detailed. It appears to be a circle with blended colours of red, pink, and white streaks across its surface like paint across canvas.

Despite the damage, the shuttle's engines continue to hum rather peacefully.

Heinrich try's to inspect the object.

"Computer, bring up information on Autopilot target."

Rey casually looks out the cockpit at the object.

The computer complies to the voice command. Although the shuttle's library and scanner equipment are primitive compared to modern standards, screen responds with:

0101 Ib

Z0R01K10 L00 PR1M0 b

Clearly the computer doesn't have all the answers, but Heinrick's knowledge of celestial objects tells him that this object must be a gas giant. Furthermore, the code "Ib" explains that your destination must be the second moon of the first planet of this star system.

Mirtre releases a hushed "click" and "pop" not bothering to use his translator device.

"These foolish beings think they would survive if we did intend to escape yet another time."

Lucas looks out of the cockpit at the object

More time passes. The object is now in full view, the swirling clouds of a gas giant occupies most of the main viewport. The engines accelerate a little, drawing you closer to the cloud behemoth. A gas giant would spell doom to any vessel attempting to fall too far into its gravitational pull.

The shuttle suddenly jukes and rolls to the left showing a field of stars once again. But you also see a reddish moon hanging there, almost lonely looking.

The moon comes into full view, then engulfs the viewport completely. The shuttle slams into the atmosphere and the hull creaks and groans as it heats up. The clouds give way to a whole new world. In your helpless panick, you notice a vast ocean, covering most of the surface. You continue to scream toward a continent.

LANDING PROCESS INITIATED

chirps the onboard computer. The shuttles shakes violently and tosses you all about your seats. The shuttle's various panels all show red lights. Warning klaxons ring out. Smoke escapes the panels along with the occasional burst of sparks. The noise of your imminent doom becomes piercing to your ears. All of the sudden everything goes white, then black.

...

First, there is a terrible ringing in your ears as you come to. Then your eyes focus on your surroundings. The shuttle is trashed to say the least. The main viewport is cracked, and it is hard to see what is outside. The air you breathe is a little smokey, and causes most of you to cough a little. A green light appears on the dash board accompanied by a beeping noise. You pick yourselves up and see the main screen display "LANDING SUCCESSFUL" blinking in time with the beeps. The following text scrolls up on one of the panels, "WELCOME TO 0101 Ib, PLEASE CHECK WITH THE ATMOSPHERIC DIOGNOSTICS PANEL BEFORE EXITING THE POD. HAVE A NICE DAY!"

"Well boys that was a bit of an adventure!"

Hienrich short laugh turns into a cough as he clears out his lungs. He reaches into his pocket to pull out the remains of his pipe.

"well that's a damn shame. Who's closet to the Diognostic panel?"

"All things considered that was a pretty good landing, as for the diognostic panel i don't even know if it will help or even still intact but ill give it a try."

Rey wanders over to the panel

"In the mean time we should scavenge what we can and get ready to move out."

The screen displays atmoshperic information about the air beyond the shuttle. Apart from a bunch of technical jargon that plashes on the screen, it says this:

USE OF FILTER MASKS ADVISED
FILTER MASKS LOCATED IN EMERGENCY COMPARTMENT

Mitre crawls around a little light headed from all the smoke. Smelling the air he tries to imagine what happened to the pod to cause such a horrific landing. Using his device he glances around as he programs,

"Beings, we seemed to have survived."


These primitive creatures place far to much value on their lives. My survival, in question, is justly placed.

Mitre's device scans the area. It reports that all damage done to the shuttle had probably been caused by the destruction of the Slave Ship when it exploded during your escape. Any further damage was caused by the crash landing itself.

Creeping out Mitre exits the ship

Sealing the ill-fitting mask with duct-tape, Hienrich follows Mirtre out of the shuttle, pistol and cutlass at ready.

The hatch hisses open to reveil smoldering rock, and a sky full of rusty coloured clouds. Mitre's Device activates and a built in Vacc Suit system envelopes him. Just beyond the wreckage are a cluster of boulders. Climbing these would provide an excellent view of your unfamiliar surroundings. Beyond these however, lies a dusty and forboding landscape.

You hike up your survival kits courtesy of the escape shuttle. All together you have enough tents to accomodate everyone, binoculars, electric torches, medical kits, a flare with three rounds, and enough rations to survive for three days.

Fio climbs out of one of the over head luggage spaces, not quite sure of how she landed there during the crash.

[Thud!]

Ahhhhhhh... everything hurts......... cursed safety belts

Fio stumbles to the rear hatch and sits on the ramp, adjusting one of the respirators that somehow hooked onto her flight suit in the luggage compartment.

How long were we out?

Rey walks down the ramp while slightly adjusting the straps on his newly acquired respirator.

"beautiful place we have here..."

surveying the general area he points at the boulders.

"from on top of those boulders we can get a better lay of the land"

Rey picks his way to the boulders and gets ready to climb them.

Rey heaves himself up on the rock and stands up. Squinting at the hazy horizon he spots vegetation in one direction. Rolling hills are peppered with greenery several kilometers away. Looking in another direction, Rey can make out a thin line in the rocky ground, a pathway of sorts also several kilometers away. There are mountains far off in another direction, but clouds cover most other views.

A short dusty gust of wind whips around the crash site. A forbidding world for sure, but it feels like heaven compared to the slaveship.
